WRITEUP
CAPESIZE
The market extended its upward trajectory today, building on yesterday's strong gains as sentiment remained firmly in owners' favour. While trading activity was relatively subdued, underlying fundamentals continued to improve, with tightening availability in the Pacific and further support emerging from the Atlantic. The BCI 182 5TC index advanced by $1,939, closing at $43,334. The C5 index rose $0.800 to $15.245, while the C3 index gained $0.700 to finish at $35.510. In the Pacific, market conditions continued to firm despite only a single miner being active. Operator demand remained healthy, supported by four tender cargoes and a noticeable increase in coal stems. Following yesterday's sharp rise in rates, bid-offer spreads widened considerably, with owners showing little appetite to compromise. Early indications saw offers on C5 in the mid-$15s to $16.00 range, while the sole miner was reportedly bidding in the mid-$14s for an overage vessel against owners seeking the low-$15s. Unsurprisingly, fixture activity was limited. The Atlantic also maintained its positive momentum. South Atlantic and West Africa remained well supported, with C3 levels continuing to improve. The last reported fixture was concluded at $35.50, although market talk suggested $35.75 had also been paid, while fresh offers were generally circulating at $36.00 or above, depending on vessel position and age.

PANAMAX
Brokers have reported a busier day today compared with yesterday, with a marked increase in fixture activity across both basins. In the Atlantic, sources stated that tonnage availability remains constrained in both the North Continent and West Mediterranean, highlighting increased demand from NC South America and the US East Coast. Reported fixture levels for both fronthaul and trans-Atlantic business have improved markedly, with fixing levels significantly above last done levels, a trend that has also been reflected in today's index. Across the Pacific, sentiment remains constructive, with sources continuing to highlight positive market fundamentals. Ongoing support from mineral cargoes, coupled with steady grain exports from the North Pacific, continues to underpin the market. Participants have once again pointed to forecasts of weather-related disruption in the coming days, which could reduce effective vessel availability in key loading areas.

Atlantic
The Navios Sky (82,056 2015) open in Wilhelmshaven was said to have fixed to Jera for a trip via EC Canada to the Continent at $25,000 basis the Owners selling the bunkers, but further details including the laycan remain unknown.

Pacific
The Indus Victory (92,871 2013) open Vung An 8 August was said to have been placed on subjects for a trip via Indonesia to India. The Broad Rise (76,585 2006) open Bahodopi 9 August was also said to be on subjects for an Indonesia round trip. The Denita Wave (93,201 2011) open Kaohsiung 5/16 August was said to have fixed, although no further details emerged. NMDC were said to have covered their coal stem from the Russian Far East to EC India for 28 August/6 September, although there was some debate regarding the finer details. Daiichi were also said to have covered their coal stem from Indonesia to Japan, but little else emerged.

SUPRAMAX
Today felt more like a Monday than yesterday, with very little information available. The 11TC average was up again by $43 to finish at $20,390, due to the resurgent US Gulf market. The Continent levels seem to be maintained despite very few scrap enquiries and the East Mediterranean fronthaul was down today despite recent grain demand. The South continues to drift lower with second half August said to be bereft of fresh cargoes. In Asia there appears to be a slow slide in levels with a Supramax open North Vietnam fixed for a trip China at $12,500, a similar type open Indonesia fixed to the Philippines at $18,000 and another Supramax open Japan fixed for a trip WC India intention clinker at $16,000. The Indian Ocean has also seen a decline with the Ilektra (63,476 2017) prompt in Dharamtar fixed to Panocean for a trip via South Africa to China intention manganese ore at around $18,000 and a 64k-dwt open Chittagong fixed for coastal trade redelivery EC India at $19,000.

HANDYSIZE
Another day and another small move downwards with the BHSI down 3 to settle at 881 and the HS7TC average down $42 to $15,864. The softening rates in the North Americas last week at least resulted in some fixing as Owners lowered their expectations. A 38k-dwt fixed basis Baltimore for a trip Nador at $20,000 with Noval, the T Clever (37,084 2014) fixed coastal trade (possibly EC Mexico to USEC) at $21,000 with Pangea and the Strategic Venture (39,784 2014) prompt Gramercy was said to have fixed an off market Koch Carbon sulphur cargo for a trip West Mediterranean, but further details were lacking. The Clipper Bari-Star (37,976 2023) St Lawrence prompt fixed a trip to Brazil intention agriprods, the Ikan Landuk (37,115 2013) prompt Dos Bocas fixed a trip China with Saif and the Strategic Tenacity (36,851 2012) prompt Maracaibo did a trip Brazil intention fertilisers, but again further details were hard to come by. There was very little reported in Asia, a 34k-dwt fixed basis passing Colombo for 2 to 3 laden legs (1st leg clinker to Australia) at $15,000, but there were no further details.
