WRITEUP
CAPESIZE
The market eased today, with the BCI 5TC declining by $691 to $39,684. In the Pacific, the C5 index fell by $0.200 to $13.285. Despite improved volumes and a busy day of fixing yesterday, offers opened around $14.00 before quickly slipping into the upper $13s. Three miners were active, with one bidding $12.80 during the afternoon and subsequently seeing offers closer to $13.40. Another miner was also reported to have fixed in the low-to-mid $13s, although details remained limited. Overall, the market appeared well supported by miner and operator-controlled cargoes, while the tonnage list has begun to tighten following several busy days, with at least seven vessels fixed yesterday alone. Nevertheless, conditions were marginally softer. In the Atlantic, sentiment remained steady but marginally softer amid limited activity. The C3 index slipped by $0.191 to $35.850, while the South Atlantic remained subdued, with a lack of bids although offers were still seen in the low $36s. Further north, a slightly softer transatlantic fixture resulted in the C8 index falling by $1,363 to $40,856.

PANAMAX
The Atlantic and Pacific basins continued to face negative sentiment, with all marked routes posting losses resulting in the P5TC declining by $427, concluding at $18,964. The Atlantic market is being described by brokers as oversupplied, particularly in the North Continent and West Mediterranean, where Owners remain under pressure and are reportedly chasing bids. That said some market participants have noted an increase in activity, especially for fronthaul trips, with September demand said to be comparatively stronger with limited offers as Owners are reportedly favouring the P1A route. The scrubber-fitted JY River (81,161 2019) open Gibraltar was reported to have fixed a NC South America trip to Egypt. Some sources stated that the vessel achieved $23,000 daily, basis redelivery passing Gibraltar, with the scrubber benefit for Charterers Cargill. The Pacific market is being described by market sources as relatively flat. However activity from both Indonesia and Australia has reportedly remained steady, helping owners resist lowering their rate expectations. Despite this, sources highlight that the number of available vessels is still considered ample, continuing to weigh on the overall market balance.

SUPRAMAX
Another day of small gains and small losses leaving the 11TC average slightly up at $20,651, a rise of just $37. The North American revival appeared to be correcting with both routes down especially the fronthaul, whilst the South Atlantic saw slight increases again with a rumoured trans Atlantic trade at much better levels, but details have yet to emerge. Asia appears well balanced in the North with rates largely unchanged, whilst Indonesian coal remains very active, with several trades to India concluded in addition to those to South China.

Atlantic
The Asian Progress (64,684 2025) in ballast from Piraeus was said to have fixed to Cargill basis delivery passing Gibraltar for a trip via North Brazil back to the Mediterranean at $24,000 and the Maro Maro (61,134 2022) prompt in Ashdod failed with Weco delivery Canakkale for a trip Savannah with cement at $17,000.

Asia
The TJ Pelicans (58,628 2025) Qinzhou 26 August went on subjects for legs at $19,500, but there were no further details, and the Doric Trident (57,859 2016) Cebu 26 August-1 September was placed on subjects by Tongli for a trip via Indonesia redelivery WC India at $23,000. The Lady (63,194 2015) was said to have fixed basis passing Singapore for a trip via Indonesia to WC India intention coal at $21,500 with Oceana (apparently fixed Friday), whilst the Unity Melody (55,705 2012) prompt in Soma fixed a trip to Taiwan at $17,000 to undisclosed Charterers. The Josco Shunzhou (63,565 2025) coming from Chittagong fixed passing Singapore via Indonesia redelivery WC India at $21,000 with Tongli, although another source heard it was $20,500 basis delivery Chittagong, and there was a rumour that an Ultramax was on subjects at $25,000 plus $250,000 ballast bonus for South Africa to China.

HANDYSIZE
The market saw pockets of enquiry, but sentiment remained largely positional across most regions. The BHSI edged up by 1 point to 867, while the 7TC average settled at $15,605. The Continent and Mediterranean continued to lack momentum, with limited fresh activity keeping the market subdued. By contrast, some fresh demand began to emerge in the US Gulf and South Atlantic, lending slight support to sentiment, although rate movements remained marginal. The Pacific market stayed broadly balanced, with only a modest improvement in tone. On the period side, the Darya Mahi (39,760 2024) open Jakarta 16–20 August was reported fixed for a short period at $19,500, although further details were not disclosed.

Atlantic
The Friederieke Schulte (40,058 2015) was heard to be on subjects for loading Pecem and delivery US Gulf with steels at $18,500, although further details were not disclosed.
